Addressing Food Apartheid within Our Communities
When we first started our urban farming journey we constantly asked, "who do we sell microgreens to"? Most answers were high-end chefs and the wealthy. Why? Because they have a better understanding of and accessibility to microgreens. This started to make us feel as though microgreens are a part of an exclusive foodie culture.
The truth is microgreens are a functional food. According to the U.S.D.A:
"Functional foods are designed to have physiological benefits and/or reduce the risk of chronic disease beyond basic nutritional functions, and may be similar in appearance to conventional food and consumed as part of a regular diet."
It's common knowledge that disenfranchised people have higher percentages of health problems due in large part to a lack of healthier, natural food options . Our goal is to encourage healthy eating by making microgreens more approachable and versatile in every American household.
Your donations go toward deliveries for people who are being impacted by food apartheid. We believe in enabling self-sustainability and hope to teach indoor vertical farming. Donations will help us purchase supplies and provide community outreach.
